He practiced there for almost a decade before returning home to Toronto to establish his Dermatology practice. Dr. Babak Maleki, MD, FRCS(C), is a renowned board certified Ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon who specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid plastic surgery.
Born in Chicago, Illinois and brought up in Montreal, Quebec by parents of Iranian descent, Dr. Maleki is a culturally sensitive and aware physician who is fluent in English, French and Farsi.
Dr. Maleki obtained his medical degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, followed by his residency in Ophthalmology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He then went on to complete further training in Orbit and Oculoplastic surgery at the prestigious oculoplastics fellowship program at University of Montreal under the mentorship of Drs. Francois Codere, Isabelle Hardy, Patick Boulos and Jamie Wong. Over the past decade, Dr. Maleki has performed over 10,000 eyelid procedures, including but not limited to blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), ptosis repair (droopy eyes), brow lift, removal of under eye bags, eyelid tumors, management of Thyroid eye disease (Grave’s orbitopathy) and correction of eyelid malpositions.
In 2010, he was recruited to Dalhousie University to establish an oculoplastic surgery program providing service to all 4 provinces in Atlantic Canada. In addition to his aptitude for surgery, Dr. Maleki is also passionate about teaching. As the director of postgraduate training program in oculoplastics at Dalhousie University, Dr. Maleki trained over 40 medical residents and students in ophthalmology, ENT, maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery. In 2015, he joined the faculty of ophthalmology at the University of Toronto and continues to serve the academic community in the Greater Toronto Area.
Dr. Maleki has pioneered and developed an interactive course in techniques of oculoplastic surgery for ophthalmologists across Canada. Internationally, he has also taught oculoplastics as part of ORBIS, a global charitable non-profit organization that provides free surgery for underserved populations worldwide as well as training for local doctors.
Highly respected by his peers, Dr. Maleki has served as president of the Canadian Society of Oculoplastic Surgery. He remains an active member of the same society as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Canadian Ophthalmology Society. He is also president-elect of the Toronto Ophthalmology Society and serves as a scientific reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology for his expertise in oculoplastic surgery.
In 2016, Dr. Maleki joined Dr. Oestreicher at Toronto Eyelid Surgery, a leading center in Canada for ophthalmic plastic surgery and cosmetic laser eyelid surgery. Toronto Eyelid Surgery is proud to be the referral center for cosmetic plastic surgeons with difficult and revisional cases as well as patients seeking a second opinion. Dr. Maleki was appointed Medical Director of the Toronto Eyelid Surgery clinic in 2018 and continues its mission of being a center of excellence for cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery.
Dr. Maleki is a true music aficionado. He has cultivated an extensive music playlist from around the world. He often asks his patients about their music preferences and changes his operating room tunes accordingly.
In his leisure time, he enjoys running, playing tennis and spending time with his wife and children in Toronto.

Dr. Kucy Pon is an Associate Professor in the Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. After completing her medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Pon pursued dermatology residency training at the University of Toronto, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology in Boston, Massachusetts.
Since joining the faculty at the University of Toronto in 2002, Dr. Pon has developed numerous teaching initiatives in Aesthetic Dermatology, benefiting both local residents and the wider national community. For nearly 15 years, she has co-directed the Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery fellowship. Her excellence as a clinician educator has earned her multiple teaching awards, and she remains a deeply respected mentor, continuing to inspire future generations of dermatologists.
Dr. Pon currently serves as Division Head of Dermatology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where she holds a full-time faculty position within the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Jaggi Rao, MD, FRCPC, is a double board certified dermatologist (Canada and USA) and a certified cosmetic surgeon. He received his medical degree from McMaster University in 1998, and went on to complete his 5-year specialty training in dermatology at the University of Alberta. This was followed by the completion of an accredited fellowship with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Southern California. Dr. Rao is a full Clinical Professor of Medicine and served as the Program Director for the Dermatology Residency Training Program at the University of Alberta from 2009 to 2014.
Dr. Rao has won several accolades for writing, presentations, research and teaching, including the Canadian Dermatology Association’s Teacher of the Year Award. In 2011, he was the recipient of Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 Award. He has authored over 50 scientific papers and textbook chapters, and has been an invited speaker for over 500 lectures worldwide to physicians, other professionals, industry and the general public. Dr. Rao is a popular instructor for a number of dermatology-related courses and educational projects. He continues to serve as a consultant to various organizations including the government (such as the Canadian Standards Association), medical device and pharmaceutical industry, healthcare provision businesses, and professional sports teams (such as the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club).
Clinically, Dr. Rao is the founder and medical director of a comprehensive Dermatology & Dermasurgery Centre in the heart of Edmonton, Alberta. He has developed several treatment protocols and techniques, which have been adopted by other healthcare professionals. He is the founder and medical director of ConsultDERM™, Canada’s largest teledermatology program, which provides remote dermatology assistance for patients with skin-related problems. He also volunteers with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and the Canadian Physicians for Aid & Relief (CPAR) as a teledermatologist.
Dr. Rao combines his passion for dermatology with his interest in helping people to provide education, expert advice and clinical care to all who desire it.
